Serpins Super+Family

An DIALIGN 2.1 - Based and Manually Improved Alignment of 111 Serpin Sequences from SWISSPROT and GENBANK (see table for access numbers and phenotype names)

Average sequence length: 405.118
The 111 serpin sequences studied in [Ragg et al.,2000] and in [Atchley et al.,2000], we have grouped as follows:
Group Sequence type
1 (Vertebrate) Ovalbumin-type 1-16
2 (Vertebrate) Alpha1-antitrypsin-type 17-64
3 (Vertebrate) PAI1-type 65-76
4 (Vertebrate) Alpha2-antiplasmin-type 77-84
5 (Vertebrate) AntithrombinIII-type 85-88
6 (Vertebrate) Heatshock-Protein-type 89-91
7 (Virus) Viral 92-101
8 (Plant) Barley protein Z 102

Please note that the number of stars (*) below each column indicates the amount of trust one should associate with that column, and that only upper-case letters are considered to be aligned. The core of the serpin domain - essentially the columns with at least three stars - can be found on pages 8-9, 12-13 and 15-18.

Note also that, according to GENE 227 (1999) 241-248, HSP47_HUMAN is a pseudogene (also called pshsp47) and that CBP2 appears to be the only functional collagen-binding protein in humans.
